He and She

SHE
It could be a double-edged sword to meet him for both her and her family if she runs into some
acquaintances. But, she dares to keep her words as she bragged about on the phone that she’d be definitely “to go” without
reluctance.
How could she manage herself to do it to
be very calm? She’s practiced it since he informed her of his coming back with
his family for only a week. An emotion smiley face staring over his shoulders
might be what she can do to her extreme. She reminds herself of giving that a big smile like the last one he saw. He never knows that she cried out on
the back of her younger brother on the way to where her brother took her to.
She should be able to do it again “Don’t look into his eyes! Don’t do a
tear drama!”
Of course, she is scared at if she’s
going to perform well. Imaging only the picture to see him makes her heartbeats
jumping faster like giving a shock treatment to take breaths intensely…
Then, he must have been surprised at and didn't have a clue about why she talked to him with delight and calm in a split second when he said who he was on the phone. She'd been waiting for him for such a long time and the truth is he's always there in her heart of hearts.

What is the next after this? Will they
still do what they have been doing -- to keep in touch? She doesn’t know for
sure. She almost burst out laughing when he told her where to meet. Why did he
pick up this place to meet her? Isn’t it weird to meet in the lobby of a
hospital?
After a while, she feels more relaxing
even though it isn't a good place after such a long time to meet her
ex she considers.
It’s more likely he believes it should
be better in the public with all eyes around to protect him and her without any
act advanced. A safe move it surely is, convenient too for him. He doesn’t need
to make an excuse to leave home or lie to his family, but does what he says to
take his parents to the hospital for a regular visit. For her, she’s figured
out a way preparing her well without leaking her emotions shown in front of
others and him especially, of course.
It seems “a hello” in person. No more
than that it is in a time slot,
which could be only minutes left for her to have the so-called meeting before
he takes his parents’ home and leaves for good. She does know this is the last
time she sees him and never happens again for the rest of her life.
Both agreed to meet.
So, that is all.
How could she expect more than that? She
should not! She has her family and she needs to stay where she is while he
leads his life the way as he’s been doing. They know life is not
black-and-white, but it is undeniable that they can’t go too far down a
path to come back.
Many years of her life had slid by in a
cloudy memory, but she couldn’t get rid of the days when she’d been eaten up
inside by guilt of leaving him behind and not giving him a chance to talk
out doubts of his and hers too.
She comforts herself to look the
brightest side of the meeting –that she is finally able to see him. But, she needs
to keep some parts in the past happened to remain unsaid without regret. Now, she finds him
standing there in the lobby…
There is a bitter taste at the back of
her throat, and she keeps her mind completely empty of thoughts.

HE
He hardly thinks of her. It is only at the moment when his college
friend calls him and mentions her name on purpose. That would bring him back to
his early twenties. He tried to avoid it, and hated his friend to anger him.
He’s had a life with satisfaction without
worries of money, housing or child-raising. He has functioned much better than
well, which has made his parents proud of him so does his only child.
His wife always accompanies him to have their lovely vacations a couple times
yearly. His marriage is a good one, as far as marriages go.
What made him to call her? In retrospect, he admitted that he did it out of curiosities. Why not? Once he found
he’d visit his parents after he left his home town for decades. The lump-like
things between him and her was somewhere unclear and unsolved he thought. He
ignored it for years. But, maybe he could do something to fix it once he tried.
So, he called and she talked. He was surprised that
there was something he was familiar to long time ago when she spoke in a
carefree voice, though advanced in years.
He was stunned by the way she talked after she knew
who he was. It seemed natural to her, that she talked about things of her
family and induced him to talk about his family too without any hesitation. Suddenly he
didn’t know why he made this call. She sounded pleased to chat with him, as they were friends out of contacts with each other for decades. She gave him her
email address after he asked before she hung up on him.
He leaned people fall in and out of love all the
time. Nothing is new when it comes to a breakup. She acted, of course he
couldn’t see, in a very cheerful way in the second she heard his name on the
phone. How could she do that out of her calmness? It should have made sense of
how she responded to his call if he told anyone that he would call her, and she
knew in advance. But, the fact was that he told no one about his plan. It was a
mystery to him.
Did she forget what she did to him? He lived with the waves of hatred for a long time after she left him. The years slipped on by, and the hatred gradually eased to a manageable level. He couldn’t say that there had been no lingering bitterness. And, why did he want to write to her? He wanted the answer and he knew she’d tell him sooner or later. That was what he wanted.
Now, he finds her standing outside the front door
not in the lobby… Why is she facing toward the street?

With its ups and downs, he makes no complaint against his job, stable and secure. The moments
reading her emails sometimes leave him relaxed and content at work. He keeps
his daily life as usual, not really moved by what she says even though she
still remembers his birthday. It doesn’t mean much to him. He is proud of his
steel-like will.
He was given such a relief after she told him
something about the commitment her parents, especially her father, requested
him to do if she wanted to be with him. She was freaked out. How would he have
reacted if she had done as required? It was impossible for her to ask
because she was sure about both of them didn’t know what they would like to be then.
That was the main reason -- that she left him before she might have emancipated herself from her family. The answer he was looking for was unveiled eventually. Now, should he stop writing to her?

The emails between him and her become sort of flirtatious. Why does he keep doing
this, out of interest to see how it between the two exes ends maybe? Does she give it the same thought? Why? It seems
to him that she stays in the parallels, fantasy and reality. She should not,
but she obviously does he guesses.
Definitely, it’s better to meet her in the lobby, not too sentimental but considerate he believes. Meeting her in person only takes a while and no more than that. It should be the only and last time he also knows.
