A Sudden Breakup
His emotion
of anxiety was increasing and the creeping feeling of horror began to emerge
from the pit of his stomach. She didn’t call him, didn’t answer his calls, and
just disappeared after work. He stayed up waiting for her and resisted the urge to
get the help from her parents, friends or colleagues. What could he explain the
sudden occurrence? It went too far for him.
He
tried to track down what was going on wrongly between her and him, and he could not.
Everything seemed okay. Don’t they live a nice middle-class life? Did he miss out once at clearing her credit
cards? Nope! But why did she do this to him?
The only thing which they had discussed with each other in a deep conversation before marriage
and they agreed to hold onto was a sense of morality. Wasn’t it easy to do? But,
did she bothered to honor her promise? It was beyond doubt that she didn’t give this a serious thought. He
thought he’d opened his trust to her unconditionally. But, fear of being
betrayed was mightier than love for her. The seed of suspicion of infidelity was
planted on that night. She must have broken their marriage vows.

He remembered he was thrilled at finally working a treat on her after they met through a mutual friend. She was definitely sexy, sometimes smiled and was quiet not mouthy at all about how guys admired her. She wasn’t active on social media he noticed. She didn’t flirt back with guys at ease like other girls.
He
felt like his heart pounding or his heart was beating fast and his mouth got
dry whenever he saw her. Matter-of-factly he tried hard to drop the desire,
putting his hand around her narrow waist.
She looked younger than her years with a full head of shiny black long hair. He was a full head taller than her. She made eyes at him. It was
pretty sure that she had a crush on him too, who was a man of influence and
talents.
She kept it to herself without
leaking this to any of her best friends. How could she tell him that? Was she out
of her mind? She had been intimidated by the bullying threats
from her ex-boyfriend, who definitely looked after money before they broke up. In her naivety, she had believed her ex-boyfriend would have cherished her when they were dating. She’d experienced too many to mention, and how
could she tell this to him, who expressed his intention to marry her obviously?
She convinced herself that she should leave the past behind. She brushed aside the memories about things of her ex-boyfriend like the tattoos on the left forearm. She did not have the memories about her ex to treasure within her heart.
She was pleased and ready to move on and deserved to have a life with a dear husband and a cozy home. Surely she’d have their kids, and everything seemed within her grip.

It
was only a year since they married. It is said that the nature of conflict
resolution between one and others might be communication. They never really
fought with each other. He was clueless with what had happened.
There was an almost vague shift in their home. He observed that she did change somehow
after she’d been given a fairly cushy job as a receptionist at that gym, where
he encouraged her to go for jogging indoor without exposing to the possibly
air-polluted outside. In the beginning, she’d ask him if she could go out
with some lady socialites to
several parties. He was happy she made friends then.
She
came home with only a clutch bag in
her hand, nothing else, and how could she do that? She didn’t return home last
night, did she? She didn’t give a reason about why she did this and who she
spent a night with when she got into the front door and found him sitting in
the sofa. How could he question where she
went to? What if she told him the truth? What would he do? It was she to
condemn, wasn’t it?
She
didn’t apologize. She took a bath and smiled to him, who was thoughtful and lying on the
bed. Staring at her naked hourglass figure, he could see her body showed off her full
breasts, coming to lie down next to him. He couldn’t get rid of the pictures of how she
messed up sleeping with a guy, any guy, and his penis shriveled to nothing. She
was touched, not his only anymore.
She
retrieved her cell phone from the bedside table when the phone rang. She
flicked her fringe and was
oblivious to his motionless embarrassment, but said “ Don’t you join me?” He
lost his voice. She turned to him and held his gaze. In a split second, she
snatched the sheet to cover her body and left the room.

He
was in the desperate need of some space and time to gather his thoughts. Would wounds heal and love last he was uncertain about? He just moved out a week later and didn’t
leave a forwarding address. He did not see her again, but he did not change his
cell phone number. He scrolled through his cell phone, went
into his messages and checked the voice massages before going to bed. She did not ever call him. He remained his status married.
He
couldn’t recognize her but looked rattled.
How could this be she? She was only 38 years old.
Her
short hair was thinned-out, where grey was showing at the roots. Her sunken face
was so spotted with freckles that they grouped together in blotches. The dosage of sleeping pills she took
was lethal and it was too late to be rescued. He was the one to be called up as
a spouse and informed of this.
He gripped her hands and touched them with his soft lips. She was motionless. He bent down and whispered her nickname to her. The corners of her upper lip seemed lightly up like the way she smiled. He burst into cries. Her vision started to tunnel…
